On 18 July 2017, Ulyana Podkorytova presented her solo project in the centre of Baku’s Old City. Ulyana Podkorytova, a young Russian artist, was the inaugural participant of the Gogova Foundation Artists Residency.
The project's title, INVENTIO, is an allusion to polyphonic texture: for two months the artist meticulously collected sounds that she believed to be defining for the city of Baku. In addition to sound research, the show featured paintings depicting schemes of the artist’s studies, as well as footage in which Podkorytova sings the resulting scores, mimicking the urban environment.
